Embarrassing
I was about 2 months into my new iliostomy bag. I was not very comfortable with it and was probably not prepared for a luncheon with my co-workers. In any case, I went along to an Italian restaurant and after being seated everyone wanted an update on my status. I started to tell them what I’ve been through with iliostomy surgery, chemo treatment, etc. I was a bit cilld that day so I kept my hands under the table and on my legs when I suddenly felt some wet stuff on my hands. I thought it was water from the icecold waterglass and didn’t pay so much attention to it. But, it never really dried up so I peaked on my hands and saw that they were smeared with poop. I was mortified!! I quickly grabbed the napkin on my lap and wiped off everything and just got up from the table and ran to the bathroom. My bag was cut open and I didn’t have any extra supplies with me. I had to makeshift a bag out of the papertowels in the bathroom and quickly leave the restaurant and into my car and head home. Poor co-workers, they were so worried when they couldn’t find me.As soon as I got home (about 10 minutes later) I texted my boss and said I became extremely tired and just had to leave. I can laugh about it now and it taught me a lesson to never leave home without a back-up bag 😀
